JAILER/DISPATCHER The primary function of a Jailer/Dispatcher is the routine oversight of jail functions while receiving specific directions from the Sheriff, Supervisor or their designee. He/she must assume responsibility for proper treatment and supervision of inmates, effective functioning of jail policies and procedures, and he/she must be able to work with other officers in the maintenance and security of the jail. The jailer/dispatcher must be capable of utilizing good judgment and knowledge for maintaining log books, administration of phone calls by inmates, food service, incoming and outgoing mail, sanitation standards, general safety, and all other aspects of the jails operations. This position also handles the dispatch function. This includes receiving calls, coordinating appropriate agencies and units to specific situations, while he/she records all radio traffic. He/she will also respond to questions and complaints from the general public, and carry out all other functions as assigned. It is important that the jailer/dispatcher be able to legibly and accurately record information and utilize highly technical communications equipment including computer systems. He/she must be able to work under high levels of stress while maintaining independent sound judgment based on departmental policy and using the highest level of integrity. Requirements for the position of a Jailer/Dispatcher are: 1) Have a valid Missouri Operator License. 2) Must not have been convicted of a felony or a related domestic violence offense. 3) Must be a citizen of the United States. 4) Must possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent. 5) Must be able to follow orders of superior officers and perform as a team member. 6) Must be able to take a written and physical test, a Voice Stress Analysis Test, a medical examination, and a psychological examination at his/her expense. 7) Must be willing to work all shifts including holidays and weekends.
