Juvenile Office

Juvenile Office
The Juvenile Office of the 41st Judicial Circuit caters to the counties of Macon and Shelby. Its responsibilities are outlined in Missouri Statutes Chapter 211. This office offers support to young individuals and their families.

24-Hour Services

The Juvenile Office is available to offer assistance around the clock, every day of the year. The Macon Office operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. For inquiries, please call
(660) 385-2715. If you require help outside of office hours, you should reach out to your local law enforcement agency, which will then get in touch with the on-call Juvenile Officer.

Child Abuse and Neglect
Children requiring care and custody are directed to the Juvenile Office. A significant number of these children are placed in temporary foster care, with relatives, or occasionally in residential facilities, giving their families the chance to address and rectify the circumstances that led to the children being removed from their homes.

Status Offenders

Young people who partake in negative behaviors, though not criminal, may be classified as Status Offenders. These individuals might skip school, run away from home, engage in self-harm or dangerous behaviors toward others, or fail to comply with the legal instructions of their parents. Those referred to the Juvenile Office for such actions will undergo an assessment to establish a strategy aimed at resolving the issues at hand.

Criminal Offenders
Individuals under the age of 18 who participate in actions that would be considered criminal if they were adults are directed to the Juvenile Office. This encompasses violations related to tobacco, conservation, and felony traffic offenses. Youth who are 15 years old and commit a misdemeanor traffic violation will be sent to municipal or associate court.

Services Available

Youth and families may be referred for an array of services tailored to their specific needs. These services might encompass counseling, mentoring, parenting education, tutoring, and/or treatment for substance abuse.

Sanctions Available

Youth may be mandated to fulfill different sanctions based on the specific incident. Such sanctions may involve probationary services, apologies, community service, restitution, and curfews. Additional measures could encompass placements outside the youth's family in a foster home, participation in a residential treatment program, detention, and intervention through the Division of Youth Services.
